Elina Duni: vocal, piano and guitar.
Albanian singer Elina Duni left her country with her mother after the fall of the regime. She moved to Switzerland where she studied and fell in love with jazz. She debuted alongside pianist, Colin Vallon, and then recorded a series of albums for the ECM label in the wake of a new-found interest in the music of her native land. With her latest work, Partir, recorded in complete solitude, accompanying herself on piano, guitar and percussion, she sings in nine different languages to express feelings of aching nostalgia, loss and the new identity of those who embark on a journey. Including Portuguese, Arabic-Andalusian, Yiddish, Armenian and Albanian songs. It is significant that the album begins with a dazzling version of Amara terra mia by Domenico Modugno.
